THE ESSENTIALS

A NEW REGISTER.
A LITTLE PREPARATION.

01

Who needs to register?

Landlords of assured or regulated tenancies in England must register themselves and each property. Supported exempt accommodation is excluded.

02

What does it cost?

£65 per property annually, with yearly renewal. Fees will be pro-rated during rollout.

03

Which properties?

Initially, properties already let or becoming let during rollout. Vacant-property registration before marketing comes later.

04

Why get ready?

Failure to register risks a fine. Councils can begin enforcement after the regional deadline.

A FEW USEFUL ANSWERS

LET’S CLEAR
THINGS UP.

Do I need a GOV.UK account?

You’ll need GOV.UK One Login to use the service. Offline registration routes will also be available.

Will registration numbers go on adverts?

In a future phase, adverts will need landlord and property identifiers. Further guidance will explain when this starts.

Does downloading certificates register my property?

No. It gets your documents ready. You still need to complete the government registration process.

My property is outside the areas on the map.

Check the full government timetable for its region, or ask our team for help.
